Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max announced: Privacy display and dual 200-megapixel cameras
In its 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max models announced in China, Xiaomi combined a more flexible version of Samsung's privacy display technology, rear displays, dual 200-megapixel cameras, and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipsets. The phones' global launch will take place this year.

Xiaomi announced the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max models in China today. According to the company's statement, the new phones offer a more flexible adaptation of the privacy display technology introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra this year. The models also feature rear displays, two 200-megapixel cameras, and Qualcomm's new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chipsets. The company confirmed that the global launch will take place this year, which is particularly notable given that last year's 17 Pro models did not come to international markets.
The two 18 Pro models carry a design similar to the 17 Pros. The compact displays placed around the rear cameras can perform functions such as showing notifications, taking selfies, and playing simple games.

Key innovations in the privacy display
The main changes were made to the front display. The screen is equipped with hardware-level privacy features similar to those on the S26 Ultra. According to the source, Xiaomi's implementation appears smarter than Samsung's: when enabled for a specific app, privacy mode not only activates when that app is opened; it also applies to notifications, floating windows, and split-screen views without affecting the rest of the screen.
Thanks to location-based triggers, privacy mode can be set to turn on when you arrive at work or turn off when you get home. The system also activates smart triggers when it detects locations such as an airport or an elevator. The front camera can detect prying eyes looking at the screen and suggest enabling privacy mode.
Differences in size, battery, and chipset
The main differences between the two phones are in size and battery capacity. The Pro model has a 6.4-inch display, while the Pro Max has a 6.9-inch display. Battery capacity was set at 7,000mAh and 8,500mAh respectively in parallel with this; the batteries use a high silicon ratio of around 32 percent.
The other difference between the models is in the chipset: the Pro has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 Elite, while the Pro Max has the Extreme version. According to the company, the differences between the two chips are quite small.
Camera system
At the center of the camera setup is a 200-megapixel main camera using a large 1/1.28-inch sensor. The Pro model has the Light Fusion 960, while the Pro Max has the 960L sensor; however, the two sensors appear similar to each other. The 75mm telephoto camera, which is the same on both phones with 200-megapixel resolution, uses Samsung's 1/1.56-inch HP5 sensor and offers a minimum focus distance of 12cm. A 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera completes the trio.
Price and market launch plan
Xiaomi's launch follows the Vivo X500 and Oppo Find X10 flagship models announced this week. The starting price of the two 18 Pro models was announced as 5,999 yuan (about $900). The phones join the 18 Fold in Xiaomi's new flagship series; the standard Xiaomi 18 and 18 Ultra models are expected to appear next spring.
According to the company, at least one 18 Pro model will have an international launch this year. Whether the Fold model will leave China is not yet clear.
