McDonald's Is Testing Ads on Drive-Thru Menus

McDonald's has begun showing advertisements on drive-thru menus at company-owned restaurants as part of a "limited" pilot program. According to a report, at the drive-thru locations included in the test, ads from other brands will be displayed on digital menu screens after customers place their orders. Customers will see these ads while waiting for their food.

In a statement to the report, a McDonald's spokesperson said the test gives the company an opportunity to explore "ways to share post-purchase content that customers may find useful, relevant, or interesting."

Seeking a New Revenue Stream

According to the report, selling ads on menu screens could create an additional revenue source for the company, whose sales have slowed in the U.S. In addition to ads on digital menu boards, McDonald's also plans to roll out its AI-powered ArchIQ assistant. Recently introduced by the company, this assistant can identify repeat customers and "remember" their orders.
