Rabbit introduced OS3, a cloud-based AI agent that does not require R1 hardware. The company is halting R1 production and focusing on a new device that will run on OS3.
Rabbit, the technology company known for its R1 device, announced that it has introduced a standalone AI agent that can be used without requiring its own hardware. According to the company's statement, this "agentic operating system," called OS3, runs in the cloud but operates locally on Windows, Mac, and Linux devices.
According to Rabbit, users can add up to five devices and their preferred AI models to a single account. OS3 automatically determines which devices, files, applications, and AI models it needs to complete a task.
Access Options and Usage
According to the company's statement, the system can be accessed through a dedicated desktop site, through a paired messaging app such as Telegram or iMessage, or through Rabbit's R1 device.
Rabbit founder Jesse Lyu told Wired that the company has stopped production of the R1 device but has not completely abandoned AI hardware. According to Lyu, the company is instead focusing on a new "cyberdeck" device expected to hit the market "within months" that will run on OS3.
Data Privacy
Rabbit claims that the OS3 system will not store, copy, use, or sell user data. The company states that it will still keep conversations and the memories arising from them on its own servers. It is also stated that other AI providers connected to OS3 will process user data within the framework of their own privacy policies.
